10 years driving growth in the potato sector

Ten years of growth and transformation in the potato sector

Since 2015 we have worked tirelessly to strengthen the agricultural sector. Thanks to our ongoing support, more than 48,000 producers have benefited by improving their agricultural practices, sustainability, and competitiveness in their crops.

Since its creation in 1974, Fedepapa has played a key role in strengthening the potato sector in Colombia, representing producers and promoting public policies that involve the industry. Its track record and efforts in technological improvement, sustainability, and farmer welfare were crucial in 2015 when it was entrusted with the management of the Fondo Nacional de Fomento de la Papa. This responsibility reflects its ability to efficiently and transparently manage a key sector for food security and agricultural development.

Important milestones

Throughout its history, the National Potato Promotion Fund has reached significant milestones that have transformed the agricultural sector in Colombia. Since its management assignment in 2015, under the direction of Fedepapa, significant progress has been made in various areas.

Since its creation in 1974, Fedepapa has played a major role in strengthening the potato sector in Colombia, representing producers and promoting public policies that involve the industry.
Its track record and management in technological improvement, sustainability, and the well-being of farmers were crucial for it to be entrusted with the management of the National Potato Promotion Fund in 2015.
During these 10 years, we have implemented more than 14 projects that have improved the way of production in the field, from the introduction of new technologies to the creation of high-value products, aiming for the modernization of the sector.
In the last decade, the National Potato Promotion Fund has implemented strategies to reduce the evasion of the promotion fee, achieving a 324% increase in revenue collection during this period.
In these 10 years, we have promoted scientific research in potato genetic improvement. Together with the National University, we developed three new varieties: Villa, Bachué, and Jacky.
We have a specialized center focused on evaluating the available genetic material in order to identify and select the best traits to continue with genetic improvement processes.
We have trained over 17,000 farmers and producers, providing them with the knowledge and tools necessary to optimize their farming practices, making production more profitable
Over the years, we have worked with more than 30 small producer organizations, improving their technical, social, administrative, and commercial skills in order to promote a more equitable rural economic development.
We are promoting transformation and value-added at a small and medium scale, benefiting organizations and producers.
